WHAT WE DO  

The Broad is home to 2,000 works by more than 200 artists, and is one of the world’s leading collections of postwar and contemporary art. The museum’s mission is to make contemporary art accessible to the widest possible audience, and The Shop at The Broad supports the ongoing operational and programming efforts of the museum. We want all visitors, from first-time museumgoers to seasoned art aficionados, to feel welcome perusing our unique shop which celebrates the artists contained in the Broads’ collections. Our focus is to create a highly individualized retail experience for each of our visitors in a unique world class shopping destination.

HOW YOU FIT IN 

The Retail Operations Associate is responsible for receiving, organizing, cataloging, and maintaining the safety and security of all inventory for The Shop at The Broad for both the physical and online entities, as well as assisting the Sales and Service Team as assigned. You will set the standard for excellence in our distinctive venue and embody the museum’s mission.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We strive to create a warm, engaging, and professional environment unparalleled in our industry while consistently maintaining a space that is clean, organized, and neat, which we refer to as WEPCON expectations. The Operations Associate will assist in a variety of initiatives to support our ongoing and varied business needs. In addition to receiving retail-focused education, staff will be trained in safety and security to provide the best possible visitor experience at the museum.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in unloading, unpacking, inspecting, labeling, and organizing shipments
  • Check items received against shipping invoice to ensure shipment accuracy
  • Organize and transfer inventory throughout stockroom locations
  • Accurately prepare and pack in-store and online orders
  • Participate in deep-cleaning activities daily
  • Replenish the sales floor each morning and throughout the day as necessary
  • Conduct regular store inventory to identify items to be reordered or replenished
  • Use inventory control software to log information
  • Assist managers and associates in preventing theft and maintaining proper inventory controls
  • Adhere to all established loss prevention and operational policies and procedures
  • Pack up defective items or overstock and arrange any return shipments
  • Prepare for and execute all inventory counts
  • Observe proper safety procedures in the stockroom, particularly when lifting and moving heavy items
  • Assist in cleaning up the store and stockroom daily
  • Assist with all opening and closing duties
  • Stay abreast of and follow all policies and procedures
  • Support and enhance The Broad brand by achieving established WEPCON standards
  • Other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience with inventory processing and organization
  • Previous retail experience in luxury, art, and design / hospitality environments preferred
  • Honesty, meticulous organizational skills, and a strong work ethic
  • General knowledge of information technology and business software applications
  • Previous experience with TeamWork POS highly desired
  • High school diploma required; relevant coursework from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Must be able to work Wednesdays – Sundays, holidays, exhibition openings, & late-night special events
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills
  • A passion for people, museums, and contemporary art
  • Multilingual applicants strongly preferred
  • Ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Identify and positively resolve visitor issues in the moment
  • Strong decision-making skills necessary
  • General knowledge of information technology and business software applications
  • Effective and persuasive verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to professionally present information to a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

  • All employees must comply with The Broad's COVID-19 vaccine policy. All newly hired staff must show proof of their COVID-19 vaccination within 45 days of hire.
  • Adhere to all safety measures and guidelines
  • Ability to wear a mask during your scheduled work shifts
  • Ability to adhere to a health screen in compliance with health and safety guidelines as outlined by LA County Department of Public Health 
  • Must adhere to COVID-19 policies and procedures

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds. A full range of body motion is required on the job to include frequent sitting, bending, stooping, crouching, lifting, carrying, walking, and standing.

SCHEDULE

The museum plans to be open five days per week when it first reopens in Spring 2021. Staff can expect to work from 20-28 hours each week. Team members must be available Wednesday-Sunday in conjunction with the current hours of operation (see below). This is a part-time position that will regularly require working nights and holidays beyond the hours and times listed below.

The museum’s day and hours of operation are subject to change, which will likewise affect work schedules.

Monday & Tuesday | closed*

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday | 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Saturday & Sunday | 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

*Museum hours are expected to increase to additional days and hours per week.

COMPENSATION

$17.00 per hour

Employees hired into this position may be eligible for medical, vision, paid vacation, sick leave, and retirement benefits.
